Intramural Rugby

What is Intramural Rugby?

WHAT:

The intramural program was created to offer the chance to students who were unable to play and train with the main team a chance to play competitive and social rugby at the university. Traditionally created with faculty or accommodation based teams the squads play in a competitive league that is supported by the Rugby Club. The league offers a chance for students to remain active and socialise with other students a teammates, but there is bragging rights to play for and of course the Intramural Championship!

WHEN:

Fixtures are mainly played on Sundays between October and April at Coombe Dingle, however our Veterinary side play their fixtures in Langford. Teams training days vary depending on the side and their commitments so get in touch to find out more!

FORMAT:

All the teams are entered into the Intramural League and will all play each other home and away with points on offer for wins and bonus points for try's and losing bonus points. Please see the most recent league and fixtures below. At the end of the season the top 4 sides are in the Playoffs for the converted Intramural Trophy!

TEAMS:

Clifton Crusaders RFC:

Clifton Crusaders RFC are an inclusive and enthusiastic club, historically comprised of students from the Clifton halls of residence, however we welcome new members from all years, courses and accommodation. CCRFC is run by a driven committee, elected at the previous year’s AGM, who facilitate the smooth running of weekly fixtures, training and socials. Not to mention our annual rugby tour, which occurs shortly after the summer exam period, and our old boys weekend in early November.

We are a competitive team that competes at the top of the intramural league. We also have a strong relationship with several Cardiff intramural teams, as well as the Bristol Medics, providing further opportunities for friendly fixtures and joint socials throughout the season.

Check out our Instagram at @official_clifton_crusaders and click the link in the bio to join our Facebook group and see our training location on the downs!

We look forward to seeing you!

Centaurs:

Centaur RFC is the rugby team for the Bristol School of Veterinary Science. We’re a friendly, mixed ability team that has a core of vet students but also has players studying other degrees (vet chat is strictly banned from all socials). We all enjoy playing rugby at our own pitch in Langford, but enjoy the pints afterwards at our student ran bar (£1 pints) just as much. We make sure to have a social every Wednesday and often do joint socials with the other Centaur sports teams. We go to play the other vet schools across the country and make sure to make a brilliant weekend of it whilst we’re away (costume and kit only ;) ). If you’re interested in finding out more give @centaurrfc a message on Instagram.

TUBES:

TUBES rugby is The University of Bristol Engineering Societies' intramural rugby team. We are the reigning champions and had a historic season last year going undefeated. We have achieved our success through an inclusive and outgoing philosophy combined with an enthusiastic love of the game, which not only attracts Engineers but students from a variety of other courses who enjoy the opportunity to play exciting rugby, regardless of experience or ability. We even welcome social members, who don’t play rugby but love a trip to the pub. Training, Socials, and our annual tour are organised by an elected committee of enthusiastic players who ensure plenty of rugby, pints, stash and chat throughout the year.  We also have links with local club teams across Bristol which help ensure regular game time for all members across the club. We train every Wednesday at 2pm on the Downs opposite the water tower (more info on instagram) and play matches on Sundays usually at Coombe Dingle. Membership to TUBES is free for your first year, so do come along and join the best intramural rugby team in Bristol. If you'd like to find out more feel free to join our Facebook page @TUBES Rugby (https://www.facebook.com/groups/166824933355865) or follow and message our Instagram @Tubes_rfc (https://www.instagram.com/tubes_rfc/) .

EFM:

EFM rugby is the Economics, Finance and Management social rugby team. We train once a week on Wednesdays on the downs and have matches every other Sunday at Coombe Dingle, we are also open to anyone who would like to join the team from any other course. There are socials most Wednesday evenings as-well as joint socials with the wider EFM group, as a recently created team we will be organising our first tour this year. If you would like to get involved message @efmrugbyuob on Instagram.

DUHB:

DUHB is the team that represents those in and formerly in the Stoke Bishop Halls. Originally only representing UH, the team has merged over the years with other north village halls and is typically comprised of members from these halls. However, membership is open to those from any student accommodation as well as students from any year who may or may not have a connection to those halls. We train on the downs every Wednesday, but the real magic comes in the evening at the weekly socials. DUHB prides itself on its socials, fostering an enthusiastic and tight knit community with a good mix of students from a variety of skill levels and courses. On top of this, we do an annual tour abroad, which is the highlight of the year. No membership fees for first time members. Follow us on Instagram @duhb_rugby, or find our Facebook group DUHB Rugby 23/24.

United Bristol Hospitals:

The United Bristol Hospitals RFC has been dedicated to providing a competitive rugby club for Medics, Dentists and Vets from Bristol University since 1946. We have two teams that take part in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) competition and we saw great success last year with our first team winning the plate and our second team reaching the quarter final for their first year in the competition. Our first team also play friendlies against other local university sides whilst the second team competes in the university intramural league, offering a standard of rugby for everyone. The main aim of our club is to provide a sociable and welcoming environment where players of all abilities are encouraged to join and be a part of the team. We are always aiming to improve with dedicated coaching twice a week and games played on Saturday. We have a core of Bristol University medic, dentist and vet students but welcome students from all subjects looking for an alternative to the Uni rugby side while maintaining a competitive standard and regular game time. If you have any questions about our squad, don’t hesitate to check out our website (https://www.ubhrfc.com/freshers), or contact our email address directly (unitedbristolhospitalsrfc@gmail.com).
